Coleman v. Johnson (2011)

Docket
11-1053
Decided
2011-01-01

Summary

Question: Did the jury have sufficient evidence to support the Johnson’s conviction for first-degree murder? Conclusion: Yes. In a per curiam opinion, the Supreme Court reversed the lower court. Following the standard in Jackson v. Virginia , the Court held that a rational jury could find that Johnson intended to kill Williams based on the evidence presented. The Third Circuit usurped the jury’s role as the finder of fact by holding otherwise. The evidence was sufficient to support Johnson’s conviction.
